Data Protection

Most of our patient records (with the exception of some historical records) are now kept on computer. Our aim is to gradually incorporate all historical records by the process of “back record conversion”.

Some patients may have concerns about personal information held on computer databases. However, we are fully registered with the Data Protection Registrar and conform to the regulations concerning the holding of patient records on computer under the Data Protection Act.

We do not under any circumstances make available any information held about a patient to any third party without the express permission of the patient concerned, and we never make our address database available to companies for the purposes of direct marketing.

As a patient, you are enititled (under the provisions of the Act) to inspect any information we hold with respect to your patient record. Under the terms of the Act, we may make a charge for doing this, and currently we are able to provide printed copies of patient records within 5 days for a charge of £10.
